Burnham Market
Historically there were seven Burnham's – Deepdale, Norton, Overy, Sutton, Thorpe, Ulph and Westgate. Over the years the central villages of Burnham Sutton, Burnham Ulph and Burnham Westgate have merged to form the larger village of Burnham Market, which forms the principal centre for the Burnham's and several other nearby villages.
Today, Burnham Market is a bustling, vibrant village but still with its traditional Georgian charm. The centre of the village is set around the picturesque village green where every several years the natural "goose-beck" flows through the village. Lining the village green there is a selection of over 30 independent shops, boutiques, galleries and restaurants, providing all the necessities of everyday life; this includes a post office, butcher, deli, hardware shop, grocers, fresh fish shop, traditional sweet shop and wine merchant. We might be a little biased as it's also home to both of our Barefoot Retreats offices and our luxury homewares store; Barefoot Living and don't forget all of our Barefoot Retreats guests receive 10% off here!
You are also spoilt for choice with fantastic places to eat in the village. There are two pubs, The Hoste Arms and The Nelson, two tea rooms, and two unique restaurants – No. Twenty9 and Socius which are all well worth a visit! Alternatively, if you fancy a takeaway in the comfort of your luxury retreat then there is a Fish and Chip Shop or a Chinese to choose from.
Other amenities in the village include a petrol station, a large playing field with a great children's play area, bowls green, and hard Tennis courts which can be booked for use within the village.
Throughout the year the village hosts several events. Through July and August there are 'Auctions on the Green' held every Monday morning, on the third Saturday of August there is an annual 'Craft Fair' that consumes the centre of the village with a selection of over 100 crafters stalls, and in November the village has its annual Christmas Light Switch on.
Situated just a stone's throw away from the stunning North Norfolk coastline, you are perfectly placed to explore and enjoy the gloriously sandy beaches, some of the best coastal walks and the abundance of natural wildlife. Burnham Market is the perfect place to shop, dine and stay!

Departing for its final journey in 1952, the carriage has since been restored to its former glory and in 2021, it has received the care and attention it deserves including complete renovation and decoration of the external woodwork, treatment and decoration to all the furniture, fittings and also the wooden flooring. Situated on the ground floor, this stunning King bedroom has been thoughtfully decorate to maintain its character and charm. At the front of the carriage, you will find the large walk in rainfall shower, complete with a deep copper sink and copper fittings, we even managed to restore and treat the original sink as it was simply to beautiful to not use!
